Ranking in The Federation
Ranking in The Federation is the only way to get your Sol Permit, at the moment. If you want to visit Earth and the other planets in the solar system we call home, you’ll need to get friendly with and then start ranking in The Federation. Here’s how I did it. I’m sure there are other ways, but I found this quick and simple. Thanks to Down To Earth Astonomy for the tips.
You can do this in pretty much any ship, as long as you have about 15ly jump range and it’s quick. You won’t need any cargo space, because we are doing Data Running! I used my Viper Mk3 built for speed (and a little bit of firepower, just in case); those pirates couldn’t catch me and, even if they could, they’re only interested in material goods anyway. We’re jumping between Ochosi system and Chakpa system. Both are in Federation space, so ranking in The Federation is straightforward.
Find a ship build that suits you and your career in Data Running at Coriolis.
Find and get yourself to the Ochosi system using the Galaxy Map and dock at Perry’s Folly. Once you’re there, click the ‘down arrow’ once to take you to Starport Services and then select ‘Missions’ from the menu on the left. Look specifically for Federation missions. You’ll know who is who by looking at the logo in their picture. If you see the Federation logo, you’re looking in the right place. Only take missions from Federation representatives and make sure they are Data Delivery missions going to Chakpa system. Specifically, Chargaff Installation and/or Williams Dock. There are other starports and stations in the system, but they are either on planets or a long way from the star.
Accept ALL the missions on the board that match the criteria I’ve just talked about. Then head out to Chakpa system. Deliver your missions in the same place in the menu as you collected them and choose your reward. You want to be ranking in The Federation, so choose the reward that gives you as much reputation as possible. This is the fastest way to rank up and get that Sol Pass.
While you’re in the missions section of the menu, take a look for data delivery missions going back to Perry’s Folly. Head back to your starting system and do it all over again.
As you rank up, you’ll notice that the Federation Navy will take an interest in you and start to offer you missions. Take the data running missions as they come along. The missions update regularly, so don’t worry too much if you get cargo or combat missions, they’ll change. Also, you don’t have to do them straight away. You’ll continue to increase your background points, even if you’re not increasing your rank. Once you’ve completed the Navy mission you’re really ranking in The Federation and you’ll notice your rank increasing. Doing these Navy Missions is the only way to actually increase your ranking.
That Sol Permit comes with Rank Four (Petty Officer) and the Federal Corvette is yours at Rank Twelve (Rear Admiral).
